iTero Digital Scanner & Time Lapse Technology

Our office is proud to offer the iTero intraoral digital scanner to our patients. This digital technology has enhanced the overall experience for patients and dental providers alike. We love this technology for many reasons.

Firstly, we love its comfort and ease for our patients. It has replaced the messy impression materials for many procedures such as crowns, implants, and retainers. We are able to scan with better accuracy and speed.

Every patient will have a scan taken, typically during your hygiene visit. Digital scans allow us to create a virtual model of your teeth. This model allows us to be able to see your teeth’s alignment and position, the arch shape, existing restorations (fillings, crowns, bridges), as well as any teeth that may be chipped or broken. We can also visualize the position of your gingival (gums) to track any recession.

Once we have your baseline scan complete, they are updated periodically. This is typically done about every 12 months. Having multiple scans allows us to utilize another great tool, the iTero Time Lapse program.

Using this program, two scans are layered on top of each other and we can see any changes that have occurred. These changes can be many things, including teeth shifting, new or missing restorations, or broken or worn teeth. It also shows changes in recession (the position your gums takes on your teeth) if present.
