Fluoride Treatment
Fluoride is essential in preventing cavities by strengthening the outer surface of teeth, making them more resistant to decay. It also helps decrease sensitivity. Fluoride treatments are customized based on each child’s risk of cavities and can be administered as a varnish or through prescription toothpaste and rinses.
Sealants
Sealants are an effective way to prevent cavities. They are applied to the surfaces of back teeth, which are most susceptible to decay, creating a barrier against bacteria. Made of tooth-colored composite resin, sealants smooth out the chewing surfaces, making them easier to clean and more resistant to trapping food. While commonly recommended for children and teens, adults can benefit from sealants as well.
Home Care
We emphasize the importance of good oral hygiene habits at home. We recommend brushing and flossing at least twice a day, using mouth rinses, and maintaining a diet that promotes dental health. An electric toothbrush can enhance cleaning effectiveness, and our team is here to offer personalized tips for improving your child’s oral care routine.
Addressing Dental Anxiety and Fear
We understand that some children may develop a fear or phobia of dental visits. At Huntington Bay Dental, we are committed to helping every patient feel comfortable and at ease. If your child feels overwhelmed by the thought of visiting the dentist, please let us know. One of our doctors can discuss their fears and create a plan to ensure a stress-free experience.
